Dark fruit and lavender, within the tight, sweet-and-sour Gredos frame.
El Reventon is a one-hectare vineyard in Cebreros at 950 metres altitude, with vines of at least 70 years of age on a mixture of slate and granite soils. Sitting in a small natural amphitheater, with spur lines running either side of it, Reventon's position both opens it to the Mediterranean influences rolling over the Gredos foothills from the east while at the same time creating a wind tunnel affect that cools the actual site - meaning the wine shows some of the fennel, curry leaf, and orange blossom aromas of the Mediterranean leaning Cebreros village, it still has that underlying taut, restrained elegance more typically found in higher and more westerly Sierra de Gredos villages.
Unfortunately, of the three top Daniel Landi wines, El Reventon is also the most prone to drops in yield. It's wind tunnel position greats a special micro climate for ripening fruit but it also makes the pollination of that fruit especially difficult. These strong winds hampered fruit set in vintages like 2017 and 2019 resulting in smaller yields than the other vineyards - meaning sadly El Reventon is now one of the most tightly allocated wines we import.
