Damn tasty. A benchmark for complexity and ageability in Albarino
Forjas del Salnés’ Finca Genoveva Albariño is produced from a single vineyard of ancient pergola trained vines, a few of which date back to the founding of the estate some 180 years ago. It’s fermented in old, open topped foudre with indigenous yeasts, then kept on lees without racking or batonage a year.
The wine is piercingly acidic and will age brilliantly. It shows almost none of the tropical fruit flavours thought to characterise Albariño; instead, it’s steely, mineral, briny and full of grapefruit notes that finish with a tang of sea salt.
