A rich, textured Mencía: dark fruit, lightly herbal and fresh.
Altos de San Esteban’s La Perra Gorda is grown on steep, red ferrous slopes on the edge of the Bierzo DO and fermented in old oak and inert ‘eggs.’
The combination of these red soils, chilly temperatures and high altitude produces a richer, more curvaceous Mencía than those found at lower elevations along the River Sil. The result is something almost akin to very light bodied Cabernet.
