Old vine Toro meets elegance and grace...
'Aciano' is the nickname of Alvar's grandfather who passed on this vineyard on to him. It's an ungrafted plot of Tinto de Toro planted in 1919 on the sandy soils at the southern extreme of the region.
Fermented with mostly whole bunches and left on skins with minimal disturbance for between 50-60 days before spending more than a year in older 330 and 500l barrels. Aciano is probably the best yard stick with which to measure Alvar's work in Toro. It's powerful and deep old vine Tinto de Toro thanks to the combination of varietal and place, but what's new here is the array of high toned florals, wild herbs and fresh blackberry that create a much more elegant and sophisticated wine than the typical Toro. There's a precise line that runs through Aciano, connecting a plethora of dark fruit to an intense chalky minerality.
