Old is new: honest Verdejo from the extremely talented Beatriz ‘Bea’ Herranz.
Cucu is a reference to the sounds of the frogs that populate Bea’s organically farmed vineyard in La Seca.
Fermented in stainless steel, with indigenous yeasts, this is a pure and savoury version of Verdejo that shows remarkable complexity and poise. In a region that's dedicated itself to parodying New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Bea’s wines have drawn widespread praise for their fennel, bitter almond and stone flavours, delivered with a more textured palate than typical Verdejo.
The cartoonish label belies a serious wine: in a few short years, Cucu has become a mainstay on bar and restaurant lists throughout Spain.
This Verdejo is great with boquerones: marinated white anchovies.
