The cracking estate wine of Casa Castillo.
Casa Castillo Monastrell, with a splash of Garnacha, comes from 20-40 year old vines dotted around the estate.
It's a wonderful introduction to the Casa Castillo wines: full of Mediterranean herbs and dried grasses, rounded out by ample fruit weight. Like all the wines from this estate, it manages to show its warm climate origins without a trace of excess body, oak or alcohol.
Fermented in concrete and aged in old, inert foudre for 9 months, it's simply a cracking drink.
Goes with... Paella Valenciana. Bomba rice with rabbit, snails and rosemary.
