Shop Wine Envinate 'Lousas Camino Novo' Tinto

One of the most impressive Mencia's we've ever come across.

'Lousas' is the local Gallego word for slate. It's a name that's used to group Envinate's three wines from Ribeira Sacra and a nod to the soil, or more accurately the rock that marks each of these wines. Camino Novo is one of two spectacular vineyards that make up Envinate's single vineyard 'Parcela' wines here. Perched on the edge of the River Sil along the 'Golden Mile' of the Amandi sub-region, Camino Novo is an 80 year old vineyard that curls around a bend in the river meaning it's somewhat more protected from the sun and warming winds than it's neighbour, Parcela Seoane. In the wine this translates as the more savoury, structured, more 'masculine' of the two wines. As Luis Gutierrez wrote 'it's a mysterious, telluric wine, nuanced and perfumed. There's clearly something special about this place as it always produced a very special wine, perhaps not as immediate of expressive as the Seoane, but with an inner strenght and minerality that give it an austere and serious profile.' We couldn't agree more.
