Every year Frank and the team at MoVida put together a little hamper of essentials to throw some Spanish cheer through your Christmas and New Year period! This year, we're using some of our favourite products that feature heavily on all of the restaurant menus year round. Individually they're all beautiful, peak Spanish produce picked, grown, fished or farmed by artisan producers before being packed by hand and shipped to Australia.  Think lush, thick slabs of Piquillo Pepper, smoked in Navarra then peeled and packed by hand. Perfect to sit under a grilled lamb chop, or drapped across a charred bunch of fresh asparagus. The iconic Guindilla pepper, the long green chilli of the Basque country which is bloody delicious popped into the mouth but even better used to offset the richness of countless Tapas and Raciones - from the rich Jamon Iberico right through to adding a little zing to a crisp green salad, there's almost nothing in our restaurant pantries that we reach for as often as these little green legends! We've backed up our garnishes with two classic Spanish Conservas - the beautiful Conservas Emilia Tuna Belly; gorgeous strips of lightly poached tuna belly caught in the cold waters of the Bay of Biscay followed by the Real Conservas Mackerel - These are wonderful baby Mackerel, each no longer than a couple of inches, treated so carefully that the gorgeous zebra strip patterns on their bodies remain. For those unfamiliar to these fish, especially in canned form, they're a little lighter, more delicate in flavour with a slightly firmer texture than sardines. Unsurprisingly; they're unbelievably good on a slice of toasted sourdough with a piquillo pepper drapped across the top...  

 

We obviously couldn't do this without needing a splash of something alongside our tapas, so this pack also comes with two of our current favourite wines. One new; Cesar Marquez's Parajes' Mencia. A new producer who's wines have just arrived in Australia for the first time. This red is laden with fresh blackberry and bramble characters, sitting perfectly in that Pinot Noir weight spectrum but with wonderful smokey, black fruited density of Bierzo Mencia. We couldn't be prouder to be bringing his wines to Australia. Next to that is a classic that's sat on the Movida wine lists every vintage for nearly a decade - Suriol's Brut Nature Cava. Produced by one of the strongest proponents of biodynamics in Cataluna; Assis Suriol, this sparkling is complex and rich, yet at the same time full of citric freshness. It might just be the perfect way to kick start Christmas lunch!
