Meet our newest MoVida gastronomic adventure - The MoVida x MGC collaboration which has yielded our very own Spanish-Australian Gin!
Melbourne Gin Company - usually known as MGC - is the brain child of talented Yarra Valley wine maker Andrew Marks. We've known Marksie for years, his own wines produced under The Wanderer label have been on our lists for years, as have those of his family wine - Gembrook Hill. We even imported a couple of vintages of a crazy red he was making in Cataluna for him. To put it bluntly, Marksie's been one of our favourite suppliers for years, but he's also become our mate so it seemed like a natural step for him to team up with the Movida Sommeliers, Duncan Peppiatt and Andrea Infimo to brew a completely unique Movida gin - Spanish riffs on a Australian base line.
The classic MCG flavour profile has been tweaked by the guys, pulling back on Angelica and Cassia, winding up the grapefruit peel and rosemary, then layering the essential tones of Spain across the top in the form of top notch Pimenton and fresh Bay leaf. The resulting gin is layered with lifted florals and sweet herbs, bay holding the nose, Pimenton cascading across the palate. It's brilliant with a splash of tonic and a wedge of lemon. It also makes a pretty wild Martini if you kick the vermouth out and replace it with Manzanilla... We love it, we're immensely proud of it, and we hope you do too!
