Volcanic, earthy, spice
The 'Listan Prieto' grape variety is a native grape to Spain and all but died out on the mainland. As such it is now almost exclusively grown in the canary islands. It is also found in the Americas where it goes by the name Pais or Mission.
Viki sources her Listan Prieto grapes from a series of tiny plots in the north of the island around the town of Garafia. The vines are all planted at high altitudes of 1,250m absl. The total volume of production is relatively miniscule: just one 600L old oak foudre which translates to a mere 705 bottles produced. Hen's Teeth!
